A day full of queer and black excellence.
With experimental hip-hop and Afropop, the Berlin-based artist creates a unique sound that sometimes sounds very familiar and archaic and then again like a genre for which a name has yet to be found. Influenced by her grandmother’s gift, Kaleo Sansaa took her first musical steps as a child. Over the years, she continued to hone her vocal talent and creative concept until she released her debut album “Solarbased Kwing” in 2021. In addition to her own major live shows at the Dockville Festival, Pop-Kultur Berlin and the Ruhrtriennale, for example, she also accompanies artists such as Noga Erez, Alli Neumann and Nneka on tour. Kaleo Sansaa also has big steps planned for this year: Following the release of her second album, she will take it on her first headline tour through Cologne, Berlin, Paris and Amsterdam in winter 2023.
“CHII” is the abbreviation of the Bemba word “Ubuchi” and means honey. For Kaleo Sansaa, this precious nectar symbolizes inner and outer peace. The musician wants to reach FLINTA* people in particular, who all too often have to endure feelings of guilt and shame as a result of patriarchal structures. Kaleo Sansaa also wants to replace the survivor’s guilt that Black people often feel because generations before them have had to struggle and suffer so much with replace it with gratitude. However, the musician knows from her own experiences that the path to this peaceful state is full of hurdles. With her album, she wants to encourage listeners to set out on the path anyway. Just like the demigoddess in her story.
Just like Kaleo Sansaa, the lyrical demigoddess goes through a turbulent journey on the eleven songs: It all begins with the fall into sin (“Waste of sin”), she falls and tastes forbidden fruit (“Innocent Fruit”) but slowly begins to blossom (“Bloom”). She finds a new source of strength in honey (“CHII my medicine”) and finally her peace (“My Peace”). In keeping with this, Kaleo Sansaa also tells the story musically: energetic rap meets whispered lines that nestle organically against the experimental and sometimes dark beats between hip-hop and Afropop. The album was inspired by Kaleo Sansaa’s grandmother Lilian Nakazwe Mulenga. She was involved in Zambia’s fight for independence against British colonial rule.

Memorial #2: Ethiopia - And the air is burning
We Sell Reality, Memorial #2: Ethiopia – And The Air Is Burning
Join us for Ethiopia – And The Air Is Burning, the second of a series of memorials organized by art collective We Sell Reality within the framework of Refresh #2 War & Conflict set up by the Amsterdam Museum in collaboration with Sexyland World and many different partners in the city. The series of memorials are set up to come together and process and grieve the impact of war, conflict, and violence.
The second memorial that We Sell Reality organizes will be dedicated to the web of war & conflicts in Ethiopia. The ongoing war between Ethiopia and Eritrea is the root of lots of violence and oppression. It indirectly led to an armed conflict in Northen Ethiopia, called the Tigray war and to the killings in the war torn West Wollega zone of the Oromia regional state. These examples of violence and oppression led again to an outburst of violence in the Amhara region in September 2023. A six months State of Emergency is now at place in the fragmented country. Ethiopia with all of its rivaling tribes is far from peaceful, though here we hear little about it through our media outlets. To shed light on this violence that led in the past 5 years to the killing of hundreds of thousands of innocent people, we organize this memorial. We want this violence to end.
Let’s come together, to share our feelings, to think collectively about what we can do from here, to hold each other. The memorial also wishes to make people aware that we are here and therefore the conflicts in Ethiopia are here as well. We want to inform people and get them engaged as this is the world we share. We invite all the Ethiopian diaspora and everyone else who wants to know and understand more to join us. Don’t feel shy if you are not familiar with the rituals. We will welcome you, guide you and appreciate your presence very much.”
3 December, 17:00 - 21.00 (walk in from 16.30) at Sexyland World
The memorial will start with speeches, followed by food, a coffee ceremony and music.
Please also join the other memorials in other locations:
Memorial #1: Sudan – When Clouds Are Moving
25 November, 17:00 – 21:00 (walk in from 16:30) at Framer Framed
Memorial 3: Time, Space & Death – In The Silence Of Cosmic Winds
9 December, 20.00 - 22.00 (walk in from 7:30 pm on) at the Amsterdam Museum
How does past violence affect your life in the present? What do you pass on to future generations? Refresh Amsterdam #2 includes works by 20 artists from different disciplines, selected through an open call. Through their work, they demonstrate how wars and conflicts around the world and over time play a part in the city of Amsterdam. Refresh Amsterdam is a biennial, interdisciplinary manifestation of Amsterdam’s urban culture. This second edition is organized together with more than 20 cultural institutions in Amsterdam, with the collective We Sell Reality as our main partner.
We Sell Reality is a socially defiant label founded by a collective. We Sell Reality reflects on the paradox of borders that are closed for some, while open for others. For migrants who are not wealthy the European borders are almost impossible to cross. The position of dependence that some end up in as a result is made visible by We Sell Reality. The We Sell Reality team develops products and presentations aimed at offering an insight into the lives of refugees.

It’s like everything in one wonderful room!
Wondermuziekkamer is a fictional ‘chamber of curiosities’ in the form of a live performance. Animatronics, animations, videos, drag performances, live baroque music and recorded electronic soundscapes are presented as parts of the collection. During the performance, each of these collectables narrate their story of origin as well as the story of their collector.
The event is a contemporary adaptation of the cabinet of curiosities: In the baroque times in Europe, a socialite, vastly supported by the wealth created by colonization, slavery and international trade, would obsessively collect and exhibit objects - These objects would grant the appearance of knowledge, social status and at the same time inspire awe in their peers.
On Wednesday, 6th of December our collection will come alive in the warming space of Sexyland. We invite our guests to join our wondermuziekkamer and reimagine this story through the aesthetics, symbols and meaning of our contemporary view.

De Grote artBRUUT Bestaat 10 Jaar Show, vindt plaats in Amsterdam op VRIJDAG 8 DECEMBER in SEXYLAND World gecureerd door SEXYLAND, No Limits! Art Castle, Face & ORDER SICHUAN.

From December 8 we will show the exhibition ‘Protest’ by the Palestinian-Syrian queer artist s.t.a.t.e.l.e.s.s (Ahmad Mallah). Ahmad knows all too well what the consequences of war are for the civilians who fall victim to it, such as now for the civilians in Palestine. On the one hand, there is a protest that is simple and clear: the bombing of Palestine must stop and the Palestinians must receive emergency aid. That is why we sell works from the Lost & Never Found series and 100 euros from each sale goes directly to The Palestine Children Relief Fund.
On the other hand, there is a protest that is more complex and layered: where in history did the spiral of violence begin? What are the consequences of war for individuals and how do the resulting traumas become embedded in individuals and societies? Protest also consists of showing complex issues that cannot be captured in a single Instagram post. Protest also involves making humanity visible and how it is affected by war and violence.
Friday December 8 opens the exhibition ‘Protest’ by the Palestinian-Syrian queer artist s.t.a.t.e.l.e.s.s (Ahmad Mallah). From 23:00 until 01:00 there a special fundraiser opening, with performances of Sarjon, QAQ, Tina Farifteh, Arthur van Beek, Spicy Dokha, Anna Joan, Rebecca Lillich, Samira Vogel & Julina Vanille Bezold and Léa Massé.

AMALIE DAHL SOLO
A diverse Space Impro night with mostly new work: two soloists and a recently formed 9-piece ensemble performing their mix of jazz, improvisation & music based on folk traditions.
SATURNO SANTOS SOMETHING
Saturno Santos is composer Gabriel de Oliveira’s heteronym, and an imagined presence sprouting from the Great Archive of Dreams, Memories and Intuitions within each of us. Its first material incarnation, Something, takes form as a 9-piece rotating ensemble of young talents versed in multifaceted languages of jazz, improvisation, folk traditions and cultures of several territories and diasporas. Saturno Santos’ explosive grooves and fluidly improvisational songwriting paint a ritual of transformation: collectively naming the ineffable through song.

Jonny Kaye’s GROT launch event promises an immersive experience intertwining an exhibition, signings, and performances like pole dancing by Maddie and power-play by Cherry. The night will pulsate with the hard beats of three techno DJs - continuum mechanics and James Cherry - aligning with the book’s theme: the kink scene. GROT showcases Kaye’s extensive photographic archive (2019-2023), aiming to challenge societal taboos and create a celebratory, safe space where open discussions and inspiration flourish among like-minded individuals.
The exhibition will blend posters and printed images mirroring the book’s atmosphere, offering attendees a glimpse into Kaye’s world. Outfits play a role in enhancing inclusivity and diversity, with discounts for attendees donning fetish attire, fostering an inviting environment.
Additionally, discussions with Discarded Magazine are underway to merge the GROT launch with their second printed issue XXX 2, dedicated to contemporary erotic photography. This collaboration aims to dismantle stigmas surrounding art and kink, presenting a profound and unforgettable amalgamation of the two worlds.

Maas_vg presents: DUSK - release +++” is a concert evening to promote the album “DUSK” by the artist maas_vg, including performances and showcases by other artists.
December 16 you will be presented with three live music acts, visual art and late-night DJs. All artists presenting their work undefine pop structure through desire to create something new. The purpose of the evening is to show that creative and technical skills can be used to make a body of work that is accessible without conforming to existing standards in music, art and pop culture, resulting in unique media and art. We want to show and applaud artists that undisturbedly create, uncertain about the outcome.
The music on the album “DUSK” is a mix of modern pop, metal and experimental electronic, resulting in an experimental style that can be experienced as pop music, with a somewhat dark undertone. Abstract and alienating sounds lay foundation for heavy hitting drums and melodic interpretation that ranges from soft and sweet to harsh and heavy. The music is rich in emotion and invites the listeners to introspect.

Exhibition & Clubnight rooted in unity and flourishing in rhytm
Mycelium creates fungal networks that distributes resources throughout a forest, if one tree is lacking in hydrogen another tree will share their extra resources. We are presenting this exhibition as a collective, supporting each other if one of us is lacking. By acting as a mutually supportive collective we seek to create systems that take inspiration from ecology. The Hyphae collective is comprised of a variety of multimedia creators. This exhibition consists of: photography, film, textiles, fashion, graphic design and performance. Revolving around themes of ecology, feminism, food, identity and craftwork.
We also invite you to immerse yourself in sound by joining us for an afterparty. Surrounded by Hyphae art, discover a variety of alternative music and DJ’s. In the theme of ecology, one could imagine that if we are trees in a forest, music would be the mycelium network connecting us.
